AMAT or MAT + sa, which became son/zon. 

Sa = daughter or son in ancient Egyptian - old European, (not PIE). 

The Amazons are strictly women, so the association with '' son/zon'' is highly relevant.In modern English, ''son'' is a masculine noun.
