 ''Santa gives gifte to children'' does not mean presents, but poison in German :)))) That is the real meaning of Santa (anagram: Satan)

 Originally, in Old High German, Gift meant a regular present—something given.

 However, during the Middle Ages, people started using the word as a euphemism to secretly talk about poison. Instead of saying "I am going to poison my rival," they would say "I am going to administer a dose (a gift) to them" 

They used this code word so frequently that the original meaning of "present" completely died out in Germany. The word permanently froze into meaning strictly poison.

There is actually one single, sneaky hidden exception left in the German language where the word still means a present: die Mitgift. 

Mit (with) + Gift (gift) translates directly to a marriage dowry.

 In the Scandinavian languages, the word gift simultaneously means poison AND married! 

Think about stories like Snow White with the poisoned apple: the poison must be given willingly as a gift for the trap to work (this gets really dark once you translate snow into ''omat'' (from Amat, Mat).
