Romania's 7,000 MW Grid Breakdown (All in MW)

Romania has over 24,000 MW of total power plant capacity built across the country, yet the grid only needs 7,000 MW on average.

They told people they had to import energy at high prices and upped the bills ...Scam.

They turned off the Cernavoda power plants using the excuse of 5 centimeters (2 inches) Danube lower levels. Put on a show with explosives, etc...Scam.

Energy SourceAverage ShareContinuous Output (MW)Installed Max Capacity (MW)Role on the Grid
Hydropower~26%~1,820 MW~6,688 MWRomania's #1 power backbone (led by Iron Gates on the Danube).
Natural Gas~18%~1,260 MW~2,200 MWFast-ramping backup power when wind or solar drops.
Nuclear~16%~1,120 MW~1,300 MWRuns nonstop 24/7; dips only during planned refueling or summer Danube lows.
Wind~13%~910 MW~3,600 MWConcentrated heavily in Dobrogea (near Constanța and the Black Sea).
Solar~12%~840 MW~7,800 MW*Peaks at midday (~2,500+ MW) and drops to 0 MW at night; booming rapidly in 2026.
Coal~10%~700 MW~2,600 MWOlder lignite plants kept mostly for winter cold snaps and peak hours.
Net Imports & Biomass~5%~350 MW—Cross-border flows with neighboring grids to balance second-by-second demand.
Total Grid Demand100%7,000 MW~24,000+ MW
