The Memphis Supercomputer

 We are told that:

The "Memphis supercomputer" refers to Colossus, a massive AI training facility developed by xAI (Elon Musk's AI company) in Memphis, Tennessee. Often called the "Gigafactory of Compute," it's designed to power the training of Grok (xAI's AI chatbot) and support AI features on the X platform (formerly Twitter). Launched rapidly to compete with rivals like OpenAI, Colossus is currently the world's most powerful AI supercomputer by scale, with plans for further expansion. It's housed in a repurposed former Electrolux factory in South Memphis (Southwest Industrial District).

 Current Scale~200,000 GPUs (as of late 2024); equivalent to combining the world's two largest supercomputers and multiplying by four in compute power.

 Expansion PlansTargeting 1 million GPUs by end of 2025, involving partners like Nvidia, Dell, and Super Micro Computer for server racks. This would make it exponentially larger.

 Power Needs150–300 MW (enough for ~100,000–200,000 homes); initially supplemented by ~35 portable methane gas turbines (now permitted).

Elon Musk did lean into the symbolism.

Musk loves mythic, larger-than-life narratives. Choosing the city that gave the world Elvis, Sun Studio, and the electric rebellion of rock ’n’ roll to now host the world’s most powerful AI cluster? That’s pure storytelling gold.

  • He called Memphis the "Home of the King" (Elvis) and the birthplace of rock ’n’ roll when announcing Colossus.
  • On X, he posted things like: “From the home of Elvis to the home of Grok.” “Memphis: where rock ’n’ roll was born… and now where AI gets its groove.”

     MEMPHIS (the original Egyptian city was MANFRED). MANFRED = Cancer conjunct Cancer - 27kya. The city that built the pyramids, with a PYRAMID in its name (D is a pyramid). FRE = Freyr (Khafre, Lucifer, etc).

    The city of Memphis, Tennessee was deliberately named after Memphis, Egypt, the ancient capital on the Nile (just south of Cairo).
