The name "Adenoid" is a classic piece of Chaplin's genius. He chose it as a direct parody of Adolf, but with a hilarious anatomical twist. Adenoids are the patches of tissue high up in the throat, right behind the nose. When they get swollen, they cause people to talk with a nasal, stuffed-up, congested voice—which perfectly matches the choked, barking gibberish Hynkel uses during his speeches.
