Gardiner's letter to Carter

In a 1934 letter, the British philologist Sir Alan Gardiner confronted archaeologist Howard Carter, revealing that a gift Carter had given him was undoubtedly stolen from the tomb of Tutankhamun

Carter had previously gifted Gardiner a ancient Egyptian whm amulet (used for offerings to the dead) as a token of appreciation for his help in translating hieroglyphs from the tomb. At the time, Carter explicitly assured Gardiner that the artifact did not come from the tomb

Suspicious of its origins, Gardiner showed the artifact to Rex Engelbach, the British director of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Engelbach confirmed that the amulet matched the exact mold of other amulets discovered in Tutankhamun's tomb

The letter, which was published in full in Egyptologist Bob Brier's book Tutankhamun and the Tomb that Changed the World, contains the following notable passages

Gardiner relayed Engelbach’s verdict directly to Carter, writing: "The whm amulet you showed me has been undoubtedly stolen from the tomb of Tutankhamun."

"I deeply regret having been placed in so awkward a position."

Gardiner initially covered for Carter, adding: "I naturally did not tell Engelbach that I obtained the amulet from you."

This correspondence serves as the first definitive, "smoking gun" proof from an insider confirming long-held rumors that Carter pilfered treasures from the vault before its official opening. Following the incident, the friendship between the two men fractured, and the amulet was quietly returned to Cairo

See the ''rope seal'', that looked brand new. Carter also repainted the tomb (See Reeves research).

He did a rushed job, sealed the tomb in a hurry, stole its contents, falsified the paintings + inscriptions.  The paint was wet, thus the development of the mold.

Everyone in the Carter team was ''disappeaered'' within years. The stakes were too high.

Reeves proves the tomb was Atena's (''Nefertiti'' is a fake name. Right, about that...Gardiner did this).
