 Meer = sea in German (Germanic language)

Mare = sea in Romanian and Italian. (Romance languages)

Mar = sea in Spanish and Portuguese (Romance languages)

Mer = sea in French. (Romance language) 

Mare - Egyptian.  (Romance language Yes, I am aware of the false claims that state something else).

 

Mittel might come from MATRIA > MIT RE > LE > EL. 

Matria became ''mutter'' in German, 

Mediterranean =  MAT + TERRA + variations of ''nea'' 


Toponyms that contain MAT:

Madera, Madeira, Malta, 

MEDINA, which seems to come from MAT ATENA (Orion conjunct Aries)

MAT KA > Matca,  Mecca.
