In 1666, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, chief minister to Louis XIV and founder of the French Académie des Sciences, explicitly banned astrology from the Sorbonne's curriculum.

 In France, the 1666 ban accelerated removal, with the last prominent academic astrologer, Jean-Baptiste Morin, holding a chair until 1656.
In England, it surged during the Civil Wars but was excluded from institutions like the Royal Society (founded 1660), disappearing from universities by the late 1600s.
